Updates and Self Promises

Wrote a stupid and clever thing last week that really made me chuckle and half the people who read it said it was brilliant and the other half hated it, which makes me want to write a lot more. I imagine this is where it would happen, although I did just buy mightierthan.com which is probably the best name for a writing website I’ve ever dreamed up and I can’t believe it was available. It’s mine forever now.

Jason Longo, a year after I tried to bully him into it, finally has his website up @ jlongoart.com and you should pay him money to commit artism. He worked for the Daily Show once and I helped reap all the benefits .

In other great big gigantic wonderful news I worked my last night in the restaurant business on June 29th. It only took me ten years to extract myself and it was pretty incredible to finally get there, walk out the door of Union Bar and Grille, and know I’m never going back to it, or any other restaurant, except to be a fun loving patron. I even framed my last dollar earned in deliberate irony of how restaurants often have their first dollar earned posted above the cash register. And incase you didn’t know, it is illegal for Staples to laminate a dollar bill, yet another way terrorists are ruining American stationers. It still hasnt completely hit me to be honest, as I am not entirely sure I don’t have to show up at 4:00pm tomorrow night (I don’t) but I’m sure some day soon it will really hit me and I’ll start jumping up and down. Hopefully this will happen someplace interesting, like a security checkpoint or a Scientology seminar. In celebration of this milestone I tried to list as many people as I could remember ever working with at the 5 restaurants I have worked which was a fun and frustrating excersize in 100s of names, and then I bought a big powerful fan for the sweltering locker room at Union which created a comfortable wind tunnel effect I was quite proud of. A coworker dubbed it the “Chas Danner Memorial Fan” which almost became a reality when someone made me drink SoJu later that night in Chinatown. I also fixed the cornbread button in the POS system one last time. I truly hope I am remembered fondly, and I hope everyone I’ve ever worked with who’s treading water like I was will find their exit like I could. The industry will certainly be less zany and a lot quieter without me running around. Hopefully I’ll never have a circular activity job like that ever again where I basically become an amplified extra goofy version of myself. (I won’t)

I also left the clever and wonderful office of Four Score Technologies, save some contract work here and there, to take a new job working for OASE USA, a company that manufactures fountains, pumps, and filters in the water garden and landscape architecture industries. I’ll be helping to develop a few new sales divisons with them. Yes I’ll be remaining in Boston… I mean how could I leave the Big Dig now, when it needs me the most.

I should finally have a record label soon as well, called Bighouse Recordings, which will be run by Brad Copeland and myself. (I will not link to Brad until he updates his website or has a top ten record, which ever comes first.) This will of course be one of the ways I will prove to my kids that I used to be a happening guy. That and my forged Rhodes Scholarship. And a picture of me next to a Glacier.

I promise I will write more, for the three of you that check this site every 2 months. So sit tight.
