Last.fm

So I finally have joined last.fm which if you didn’t know, is a free (and non-invasive or resource hogging) service you install on your PC which then keeps track of what you listen to in iTunes or another media player. Since the majority of music that I listen to is now through iTunes on my PC, this should provide an interesting opportunity to track what I listen to, both for myself and for others.

It has occurred to me as I constantly reload my user page to make sure it’s all tracking properly, that its really a very personal thing to me to see what someone is listening to. I mean, as a bonafied music geek, what I listen to really does define me in many ways. For instance you can partially see what kind of mood I’m in depending by how much progressive house, or Gorecki, or jazz I’m listening to in a given stretch of time. Or say you recommend something to me, well now you can really see if I am listening to it or not. If nothing else I suspect it will just be a fascinating window for anyone who cares to look for one. And it’s in realtime, right now I’m listening to Brad Mehldau, go ahead and check! (cant get the gmt time conversion setting to work yet tho – bleh)

Plus now I can keep track of Bogie’s listening habits and ridicule or praise him accordingly.

Additionally, with the advent of Netflix friends, not only can you see what I listen to, but what movies I not only have liked, but currently have, or intend to watch. Full media disclosure damnit…
