Searching for a fix

Seriously – how on earth did it take me this long to try yoga. I’m a pretty with it guy. I’m not afraid of Indian culture. I saw Monsoon Wedding. I worship India Quality in Kenmore Sq. I’d shop at the Quickie Mart if I could. Gandhi was kind of awesome. But yoga did evade me. Was it my irrational fear of yoga mats?

Anyway, I love a good body high more than the average person. And yoga hits you with one, let me tell you. And I’m doing Bikram Yoga, which is 105 degree yoga. And this morning I only almost passed out once! (fricken camel pose) As much as I love the obnoxious narcissism of weight training and the intellectual stimulation of an elliptical trainer mixed with the “Club TV” music video network…  this was out there waiting for me and I accept.

So pass the Smart Water life, what else you got?

(And it was a little odd waking up early on a Sunday to be somewhere at 9am, and not have that place be a restaurant job, perhaps even one where I was once written up for properly articulating why I disliked working brunch. Although we did have lots of very cool brunch regulars – but seriously you ever had to fill ketchup bottles?)

MLB, they really give a shit about you..

My complaint email to MLB regarding their new DirectTV deal for the extrainnings package, which means fans everywhere will have to black out their local team in order to see any other team in baseball play games on TV:

Dear MLB,

I will be very angry if you allow one provider to monopolize the extra innings package such as has been reported you may. I cannot see how this is anything but a “money grab” for MLB and frankly a black eye for years to come. The fans are the ones who pay the price, and the fans are the only reason MLB continues to exist. In an era where national interest is so high in not only one’s native team but in the accomplishments and play of all 30 teams, such a decision closes a window which should only be made wider, for the good of the game. I am a Comcast subscriber who is unable to get satellite TV due to restrictions in my lease, if I even felt comfortable switching technology which I don’t – I do not understand why a deal such as this must be exclusive. To make it so can only be about lining the pockets of the ruling parties in MLB, and not the true core of the game – the fans. MLBTV online is simply not an acceptable (or high enough quality) option to offer as an alternative

I hope the reporting has been in error, and MLB will continue to look for ways to bring more fans tighter into the wonderful world of baseball, not take actions which drive them away.

Regards,

Charles Danner
